First: What kind of health info do you need?
Consumer health information is for patients and their families, and for anybody who wants to keep up on medical news. If you are a consumer, you might want to start with a brief overview of your subject and move on from there if you need more.
Research/professional information is for healthcare professionals, students, and consumers who want to delve into the research behind the medical news. Brooks Memorial has some research-level articles in its databases (see below), and we can obtain additional research articles through interlibrary loan. Please inquire at Reference about your options; we'll be happy to help.
- Drug Information Portal
Portal to reliable information on drugs and supplements of all kinds. Search by drug/supplement name or category. Connects to Medlineplus, Daily Med, Pillbox, and other quality sources.
- Health and Wellness Resource Center
A good starting place for both consumer health and research-level information. Includes overviews of specific medical conditions and treatments, a drug/supplement database, and articles from consumer and professional journals, including alternative medical info. Many articles are in full-text, but those that are not can usually be obtained through interlibrary loan.
Free portal to consumer health information from the National Library of Medicine. Includes overviews of health topics, health news, video tutorials, and a drug/supplement database. Click the Español link to switch to the Spanish-language version of the website.
Flagship database from the National Library of Medicine for researchers, health professionals, and students. "Comprises more than 22 million citations for biomedical literature from MEDLINE, life science journals, and online books. Citations may include links to full-text content from PubMed Central and publisher web sites." If there is not a link to free full-text for the article you need, we might be able to obtain it for you on interlibrary loan. This is not your first stop for basic information; if you need a basic overview, try the HWRC or Medlineplus.
