College Students

Welcome, college students

We know that academic life in a rural place has its challenges, especially when it comes to library research.  We are happy to help you discover your options for research and interlibrary loan at Brooks Memorial and at your own institution.

Brooks Memorial and Your Academic Library: Working Together

Often, your college will have online resources that are better tailored to your academic research needs, and many Vermont and distance-learning institutions offer interlibrary loan service directly to the students' homes. Your college may also have more direct access to materials from other academic institutions and from out-of-state libraries.  Here are links to pages that will help you get acquainted with your academic library in the Brattleboro area:

However, Brooks Memorial can be a useful adjunct to your academic library.  Some things we can offer:

  • Materials on our shelves or in our online databases (see below for database links)
  • Help developing search strategies as you begin a paper or other project
  • Help discovering what is available to you through your academic institution, online and through connections with distance-learning librarians
  • An additional source for interlibrary loan materials

Please call (802) 254-5290 x109, email, or stop by the Reference Desk; we would love to chat with you.

Journals and Magazines

Academic Onefile is a useful general-purpose academic database.  The majority of articles are in full-text, i.e., you can read them, print them, or download them directly.  Academic Onefile also lets you limit your search to peer-reviewed materials.  But remember: your academic library might have databases that are more specific to your topic.
