Downloadable Audio Books - Recorded Books

Recorded Books logo.

The Brooks Memorial Library offers downloadable audio to our patrons through a Vermont consortium of public and school libraries who has contracted with two audiobook vendors. Read more for Recorded Books here and you may also wish to visit our Listen Up! Vermont option.

Here’s how it works. . .
For an overview go to Green Mountain Library Consortium and read the Recorded Books help. This one blog entry will answer most of your questions.

You will need your library card number to download items:

1. Log in to http://kite.middlebury.edu/login?auth=brooks&url=http://www.netlibrary.com with your full library card number.

2. Before you can download you will need to download a free program called Netlibrary Media Center. Go to
http://www.netlibrary.com/Help/DisplayTopic.aspx?Name=MediaCenter/InstallationProcedure and follow the instructions to get your PC ready for Media Center. Read Quick Start because there is some important information on this device before you can use it.

3. Once you have downloaded the software you are able to search for your title, or just click on a category of eAudiobooks. Any that say "Download this eAudiobook" are available.

4. http://kite.middlebury.edu/login?auth=brooks&url=http://www.netlibrary.com will redirect you to the site after you log in with your password. If you time out you need to use the full url to log back in. If you don't the site will ask for a username and password.

5. You can download ten (10) items on your card and have them for twentyone (21) days.

6. If transfering a title to a device you must select the cd quality when downloading.

7. Netlibrary Media Center is compatible with many devices.

8. There are over 2,000 titles available 800 of which are compatible with iPods and Macs.

Brooks Memorial Library has an mp3 player that Optima Computers has donated. We are able to lend this out to patrons who do not have a player and would like to download the audio themselves.

If you have problems please send an email to brattlib@brooks.lib.vt.us describing your problem.
