GUIDELINES FOR REVIEWERS

Dear Fellow Book Reviewer:

I hope you will participate in writing a book review for a weekly book column in the Brattleboro Reformer entitled, For the Love of Books.

The goal of our group is to provide to the daily readers of the Reformer information on books which we have found inspiring, moving, delightful, earth-shattering, or just a helluva read. And in this process we hope to promote libraries, bookstores, and just plain reading in general.

Below are some guidelines we ask that you follow to streamline the operation as much as possible. This is a volunteer effort, so if there are any slipups along the way, our apologies are up front!

FOR THE LOVE OF BOOKS GUIDELINES FOR REVIEWERS

1. Please write your reviews on computer. You can submit them the following ways:

  • By e-mail to : Brattlib@brooks.lib.vt.us
  • 3 1/2" floppies in Text format [please note on the disk if Mac or DOS]
  • if it is impossible to submit by computer, please type , double-space, and mail to :
         Jerry Carbone, Director
          Brooks Memorial Library
             224 Main Street
          Brattleboro, Vt. 05301
            or fax: 257-2309

2. Reviews may be on a book, or they may be a review essay on several books. Anecdotal stories on reading and books are also welcome. Please make sure that the book(s) is/are available in the libraries or bookstores. Its o.k. to review out-of-print books, but they should be readily available through the local library.

3. Reviews should be two pages, double-spaced, or about 500 words. The Reformer may edit them for space, so don't be too alarmed if what you see in the paper is not what you sent. Please end the review with your name and organization (if any) you wish to be identified with.

4. The review may be published at anytime--up to 6 to 10 weeks from the date of your submission. If your book is seasonal or needs to be published to coincide with a commemoration or holiday, please note this on the review and we will try to accommodate it.

5. Any questions? Please contact the person who asked you to write the review!

Sincerely,

For the Love of Books
