How may I get
a new library card for my child?
If you live in Brattleboro, the card is free. A parent
or guardian must complete a registration form for any child
under the age of 16. Your card must be cleared of all fines
and overdue materials before you can register your child.
If you are a new borrower, please bring one proof of
your street address and register at the Main desk on the
first floor. Then come to the Children's Room to complete
the registration form for your child.
If you live outside of Brattleboro, a card may be purchased
for $48.00 per year, ($25.00 for six months). Please register
at the Main Desk with one proof of address. You can then
register your child for a separate card in the Children's
Room. The cost is $5.00 for each additional card.
How many items may my child take out on his/her card?
There is a limit of ten items for the first week on a new card. After that, the following limits apply per card for juvenile items: 1 DVD, 6 videos,
6 audio cassettes, 6 new picture books, 6 new fiction, 6 new nonfiction, and 6 kits (read-alongs). Ask
at the circulation desk in the Children's Room for an information
form detailing other limits and policies.
Can my child use his/her card to take out books or
other items from the adult library?
Yes. Parents are responsible for their child's choice
of and access to library materials.
What is the loan period for items from
the Children's Room?
DVDs are charged out for 14 days. All other items from the Children's Room are charged out for 28 days. Ask for an information
sheet at the circulation desk for information about renewals.
What are the fines for overdue items?
The fines are $.15 per day, per item.
Can my child use the internet?
Parents of any child under 18 years of age must assume
responsibility for their child's use of the Internet through
the library's connection and must sign an Internet User
Agreement. Your child must have a Brooks Memorial Library
card free of fines and overdues to sign-up for the Internet.
The Internet User Agreement forms and sign-up sheets are
available at the Main desk.
How late is the Children's Room open?
The days and hours in the Children's Room are the same
as the adult library: Monday through Wednesday from 10:00
a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Thursday and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
